Meet the H&P Staff

Guy Hopkins Semmes, CRGuy Semmes, has been a registered contractor in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia since 1975. His background in Archaeology inspired his interest in preserving and renovating old buildings. Mike Denker joined forces with Guy Semmes and together they founded Hopkins & Porter Construction in 1977. Mr. Semmes is an active member of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), the Potomac Chamber of Commerce, and the Potomac Rotary. He was president of the Metropolitan Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry for 2 terms, and has been as a member of the National Board of Directors of NARI. Mr. Semmes participated in the founding of the Gudelsky Institute of Technical Education at Montgomery College in Rockville, and encourages all of his employees to further their education. Presently, he handles Marketing and Planning for Hopkins & Porter. Outside of Hopkins & Porter Guy cultivates his apiary of bees. |
Michael Porter Denker, CRMike Denker graduated from Antioch College in 1970 with a BA in Fine Art. After a stint as a commercial artist in L.A. and 4 years above the Arctic Circle, working with Canadian Inuit, Mike joined forces with Guy Semmes in 1977. Mike earned his National Association of the Remodeling Industry’s “Certified Remodeler” status in 1988. Mike has served as president of the Montgomery County Builders Association for two years, and received their John Brawner Memorial Award: Builder of the year 2001. He is currently President of H&P, and runs the daily activities of the business, overseeing eight administrative and management personnel and approximately 20 craftsmen. Outside of Hopkins & Porter pursues a passion for letterpress printing and is a member of American Printing History Association. |
