Potomac Day 2006

(10-28-06) Hopkins & Porter Construction teams up with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County for the annual Potomac Day Celebration. For four years now they have sponsored a raffle to raise funds and increase the awareness of Habitat's mission of building homes for families in need.

Travilah Oak Day

Annually Hopkins & Porter Construction helps to host the annual Travilah Oak Day Celebration in honor of the 300-year old plus Great White Oak tree that towers beside their office building. In 1997 a community group calling itself the Friends of the Travilah Oak organized under the coordination of Hopkins & Porter to protect the oak permanently for posterity. A small park was built around its base and lightening protection was installed. For the fifth year in a row, the annual Travilah Oak Day has raised money to support a charitable project in the community. This year and last funds helped build the new canal boat which gives interpretive rides to the Great Falls area of the C & O Canal National Historical Park.

MORE THAN ONE WINNER AT THE BASEBALL GAME

Hopkins & Porter Supports Habitat for Humanity

July 12, 2006 — Hopkins & Porter Construction, Inc., asked the help of their associates, sub-contractors and suppliers along with the Rotary Club of Potomac to join them in making a contribution to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County (HFH-MC). On Saturday evening, July 11, Michael Porter Denker, President and Co-Owner of Hopkins & Porter Construction in company with Harriet Finder of Stuart Kitchens and Peter Lukacs of Rockville Window & Door presented a check for $5,000 to John Paukstis, Executive Director of HfH-MD, at the opening ceremonies of the Big Train Baseball game at Shirley Povich Field in Cabin John Park, Rockville, Maryland.

The 15 locally based companies that participated with Hopkins & Porter were A A Ontko Plumbing and Heating, Architectural Ceramics, Carey Stouffer, Consistent Cleaning Service, Contemporary Exteriors, David Hall Drywall, Polytech Roofing, Potomac Horticulture, Professional Paint Service, Reliable Electric Associates, Rockville Window & Door, Stuart Kitchens, T A Bennett Masonry, Tony & Sons Heating & Air Conditioning, and Universal Floors. "We would like to be builders not only of houses but of stronger communities, just as the Bethesda Big Train and Rotary and Habitat for Humanity are. We realize that individually we can do just a little, but all together we can do marvelous things," said Guy Semmes. The Bethesda Big Train, a college summer wooden-bat team created in 1999, defeated and took over first place from Youse's Orioles in the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League by scoring15-5 in Saturday's game. The season continues until the beginning of August.

This is the fourth year in a row that Hopkins & Porter has helped raise funds for HFH-MC at the Bethesda Big Train. Hopkins & Porter Construction is celebrating its 29th year doing quality residential remodeling, new home construction, and handyman repairs throughout Washington, D. C. and Montgomery County. They are proud recipients of many design awards.

H&P Employees Help Clean Up After Katrina

November 11, 2005 — Hopkins & Porter employees Don Lowry, Robert Lowry, Ray Hornsby, and Jamie Dyott went to New Orleans to help out with the reconstruction of homes destroyed there by Hurricane Katrina. The all-volunteer project was organized by Rebuilding Together, a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and revitalize houses and communities, assuring that low-income homeowners, from the elderly and disabled to families, have a warm and safe place to live. Arriving on a chilly Wednesday, the workers arrived and spent the next five days focusing on one home, removing trash, installing walls, replacing electrical circuits..anything needed to bring the home back to its original shape.
