RAY HORNSBYGeneral Manager
As Hopkins & Porter’s General Manager, Ray oversees all aspects of the office and construction staff. However, all of this didn’t begin till the age of 19 years old, when Ray made the choice to start his career in the construction business as a painter. Over time, he developed the skills needed and became a gifted lead carpenter. Gradually, his experience and knowledge continued to expand in all areas of construction and project management. Ray honed this experience, gaining strength and leadership qualities that helped him become the General Manager. His goal for the Hopkins & Porter team is to take a client’s dream and make it a reality. A great design is useless unless you can build it on time and on budget. Ray also understands the importance of “service” to the client —during and after the project is finished. Hopkins & Porter’s central focus is to preserve long-term relationships with our clients and ensure the quality of our work even after the project has concluded. Ray has proven for over 30 years why Hopkins & Porter continues to be a leader among home remodeling and construction companies. When not focused on his work, Ray loves to relax on the water.
KAI TONG, AIASenior Architect
With over 25 years of experience as both an architect and builder for a demanding high-end custom residential clientele in Washington's finest neighborhoods, Kai makes your dreams take form with empathy, creativity, and a profound respect for the client and the process. As a member of the AIA, Kai's insightful approach is attuned to the needs of both your project and its environs. His creativity, experience and unique ideas will help transform your project into a space you will love for years to come. Kai presently lives in Alexandria, Virginia with his family.
TODD MCPHEEProduction Manager
Todd thrives on problem solving and paying close attention to detail. With a career extending over 15 years in construction and sales, his creativity and drive have assisted him in executing all his projects with a keen sense of precision. Todd has spent close to a decade with Hopkins & Porter, and simply looks forward to the interesting projects, colleagues and clients he works with every day. As a native Washingtonian, Todd uses his free time to appreciate the outdoors, raising two beautiful children and being with his wonderful wife.
KELLY THURMANRemodeling Project Coordinator
With over 20 years of remodeling experience, Kelly understands all aspects of the remodeling process from the need for thoughtful design to the value of quality workmanship and materials. Kelly believes in the importance of working as a team and has won multiple awards for implementing this concept throughout his work process. His consultative approach and his ability to listen will help guide you through the challenges that come with any remodelling project. When he isn’t working, he spends most of his time with his two children, enjoys sports and listening to music.
KEN HURDLEProject Coordinator
Ken Hurdle is determined to place himself in the client’s shoes to view the world from their perspective while bringing a lifetime of industry knowledge to the table. With 37 years in construction, sales, and marketing, Ken works to solve the client’s project challenges and meet their goals. He has a full understanding of residential construction from concept to completion. Ken has been with Hopkins & Porter for nearly two years, but is a key project coordinator with an extensive list of awards and accomplishments. When Ken isn’t busy with Hopkins & Porter clients, he devotes his time to community service projects close to his heart and spending time with his wife and teenage sons.
JAMES DYOTTProject Manager
As a small child, James showed interest in working with his hands. By the age of 18, James began working in the construction industry and has since risen through the ranks. He has come a long way from working on projects with his father to overseeing the completion of multi-million dollar custom homes. His positions ranged from Laborer, Carpenter and Superintendent to Project Manager, at which he currently excels. Developing multifaceted skills has allowed his services to be utilized regularly in the DC Metro area, including the overseeing of large renovations. In addition, James has achieved the designations of CLC (Certified Lead Carpenter), Lead Paint Certified and has extensive Green Building experience. When James isn’t working with his hands, he spends his time being a hands on Dad.
BRANDON SHAWProject Manager
Brandon Shaw is a talented carpenter and manager. A graduate of Thomas Edison Vocational School, Brandon has worked as a carpenter for many years and proved himself as an organized and skilled employee. He is a problem solver and thrives on resolving the challenges that construction can bring. His attention to detail, experience in the construction field and focus make him a valuable asset to our team and our clients. When not working at Hopkins & Porter, Brandon and his wife love being outdoors. They spend as much time hiking and fishing as they can.
An excellent work ethic and personable character has led Carlos to be a lead handyman for Hopkins & Porter Construction. Along with a career dating back more than a decade, Carlos’ experience has only perfected his craft and skills. Some of these specialties include painting, drywall and carpentry. When Carlos is not engaged in solving all-around handyman problems, he devotes his time to his family and friends here in the U.S. and in his homeland, El Salvador.
Juan has been with Hopkins & Porter for over 10 years and has at least 15 years of experience in all aspects of construction. He prides himself on being dedicated worker who can complete projects independently and attends to issues immediately. Because of Juan’s agility and understanding of carpentry, he is known for completing emergency repairs, both small or large, within Hopkins & Porter’s Handyman and Remodeling divisions. When Juan isn’t solving client problems, he spends time with his wife and son.
LAMAR CHRISTIEOffice Manager
Lamar has been with Hopkins & Porter Construction since 2013 and delivers a variety of experience to her position as Office Manager. She is often your first contact whether you need Handyman service or interested in starting a Remodeling project. With a career span of 25 years focusing on sales, administration and customer service in the Advertising and Marketing field, Lamar understands the client’s need to be heard. At Hopkins & Porter, our goal is to help solve the client’s problem, and we make it our top priority. When she is not at the office, she is caring for three horses, a goat, a dog and her husband.
NABILA CAPTANAdministrative Assistant
Nabila is a new addition to the Hopkins & Porter Construction team; however, she has over 3 years of administrative experience in and out of the construction field. She strives to not only understand the dynamics of the office, but the complexities of the field as well. This acute interest creates strong communication, time management and reception skills. Her educational background includes studying English and International Relations at Webster University in the Netherlands, which has added to her knowledge and ability to connect and work with a variety of people from numerous backgrounds.
